A successful webinar on Big Data Analytics: Tools and Techniques has been successfully arranged by IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter on 26th May 2021, Wednesday at 7:00 pm through the virtual platform – zoom. The keynote speaker for this event was Professor Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, Vice-Chair (Activity) of IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter, Professor Chittagong University of Engineering & Technology (CUET). The webinar was conducted by the 2021 IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter and supported by the IEEE CS BD Team SPARK.

The honorable speaker for this event, Professor Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, took a beginner-friendly approach to assist the attendees in getting started with the vast world of data. Beginning with the basics of big data – what big data is, why and where we need it as well as the growing need for big data in this fourth industrial revolution, the speaker moved on to more complex topics like how to deal with big data. He further explained how to deal with big data with the help of HDFS, Map reduce framework, HBase, Pig, and Hive and Spark. He then addressed and introduced the attendees to the research and state-of-the-art big data topics. Lastly, he introduced some of the big data case studies so the attendees could get ideas about the practicality of big data.

Students, academicians, some foreign researchers and professionals from different Universities and organizations especially who were keen on research attended the event. Over 100 IEEE and non-IEEE members attended the webinar. Overall, it was met with a satisfactory response from research aficionados, educators and students across the country.

A successful webinar on Prospects and Challenges of Deep Learning for Object Detection and Recognition has been successfully arranged by the Department of CSE, Islamic University of Technology (IUT) in association with IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter on April 1, 2021 (Thursday) at 8:00 pm through zoom platform. Dr. Mohammad Shorif Uddin, professor of Jahangirnagar University, was the Keynote Speaker of the webinar. 

The main purpose of the webinar was to familiarize the students with different application areas of Deep Learning Algorithms. The speaker focused on various research aspects using Deep Learning and its prospects, challenges in object detection and recognition. At the end of the session, there was a question-answer session related to the given topic. Students, academicians, and professional from different universities and organizations especially who were interested in research attended this webinar. There were around 100 + participants in this event. Overall, the event met a huge number of responses from machine learning and robotics enthusiastic all over the country. 

Pro-vice-chancellor of IUT, Dr. Omarja sir, gave his speech at the beginning of the program as the chief guest of this webinar. Head of the Computer Science and Engineering department, professor Dr. Abdur Raihan Sir, was also present this webinar.

A successful webinar on Diagnostics and Optimization of Deep Learning and Machine Learning Models has been successfully arranged by IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter on 5th March 2021 at 7:30 pm through virtual zoom platform. The keynote speaker for this event was Anindya Das Antar, Ph.D. Student, University of Michigan, USA, Former visiting researcher, Osaka University, Japan. The webinar was conducted by the 2021 IEEE Computer Society, Bangladesh Chapter and supported by the IEEE CS BDC Team SPARK. 

 

Md Atiqur Rahman Ahad, Professor at the University of Dhaka, and Especially Appointed Associate Professor at Osaka University, inaugurated the program and introduced the keynote speaker. The speaker, Mr. Anindya took a beginner to advanced approach while presenting the content of the webinar. Basic topics like the difference between deep learning and machine learning, a basic model of a neural network, building your first machine learning model were explained at the beginning of the presentation. As the webinar progressed, more complex topics like bias-variance trade-off, debugging and optimization, error and ablative analysis etc. were discussed. The speaker also introduced a bonus topic on the state-of-the-art of machine learning in the research sector and job market. Finally, the event was concluded with an interactive question-answer session with the ML enthusiasts, where the speaker answered various questions related to the given topic.

 

Machine Learning and Deep learning are popular topics among students, academicians, professionals and even business analysts. Over 250 participants including 144 IEEE and 106 non-IEEE members attended the webinar. Overall, it was met with a huge response from machine learning and data science enthusiasts all over the country.

A successful webinar on Deep Learning#2 ML & Neural Architecture Search for Microcontrollers & Edge Devices has been successfully arranged by IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter on 19th March 2021 at 7:00 pm through virtual zoom platform. Swapnil Sayan Saha, Ph.D. student and graduate research assistant at the Networked and Embedded Systems Laboratory in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA), was the keynote speaker of the webinar. The webinar was conducted by the 2021 IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter and supported by the student branches- IEEE Computer Society AIUB SBC, IEEE Computer Society EWU SBC, IEEE Computer Society ULab SBC, and IEEE IUT RAS SBC. 

 

The main purpose of the webinar was to introduce and familiarize students with Machine Learning for TinyML devices (e.g., Arduino & ARM microcontrollers) through a general deep-learning pipeline in Python. The speaker focused on how to conduct hyperparameter tuning and neural architecture search regularized by device constraints such as memory, latency and energy usage. Students were also provided with sample python notebooks (Collab/Jupyter). Several Python and C packages were also used to implement various state-of-the-art machine learning techniques. Finally, the speaker answered various questions related to the given topic.  

 

Students, academicians, and professionals from different Universities and organizations, especially those who were interested in research, attended the event. 288+ participants including 132 IEEE and 156 non-IEEE members participated in the webinar. Overall, the event was met with a huge response from machine learning and robotics enthusiasts all over the country.

A successful webinar on How to Reply to Reviewers: Few Points has been successfully arranged by IEEE Computer Society Bangladesh Chapter on 12th April 2021 at 7:00 PM through the zoom virtual platform. The keynote speaker was Md Atiqur Rahman Ahad, Ph.D., Senior Member at IEEE, Professor at the University of Dhaka, and Specially Appointed Associate Professor at Osaka University. Being an editorial board member at Scientific Reports & Nature Publishing Group and associate editor at Frontiers in Computer Science, Frontiers; he was able to provide in-depth insight about the given topic. The webinar was conducted by the 2021 IEEE Computer Society, Bangladesh Chapter and supported by the IEEE CS BDC Team SPARK. 

The primary motivation behind the online webinar was to present and acquaint understudies with how to respond and speak with the reviewer of any conference or journal. The speaker zeroed in different focuses on the entire interaction of how the reviewer audit the paper and the editor check the cross-approval of commentator remark for accepting or reject a publication. Mainly he described the type of reviewer (single-blind & double-blind peer), reviewer workflow, review criteria and many more things. His focusing topic was how to reply to the reviewer in the proper manner. He showed an excellent example of the author’s response, discussed author representation and so on. In the end, the speaker addressed different inquiries identified with the given theme.

Students, academicians, some foreign researchers and professionals from different Universities and organizations, especially those who were keen on research attended the event. Over 150 participants including some Pakistani researchers, 86 IEEE and 64 non-IEEE members attended the webinar. Generally speaking, it was met with a huge response from research aficionados and students across the country.
