The Annual General Meeting 2018
The Annual General Meeting 2018 of IEEE AUST Student Branch was held on the 15th of May 2018 in room 4A04 of AUST at approximately 4:00 pm. In the AGM, the new Executive Committee of IASB and IASB WIE Affinity Group 2018 were declared and they were officially handed over the responsibilities from the committees of 2017.
The Branch Counselor, Mr. Masoodur Rahman Khan, delivered the opening speech and soon after the former Chair, Muhammad Ahsan Nahiyan, and the former Vice Chair, Shaer Ahmed, took the stage to present a slide show that briefed the audience about some of the activities of the Student Branch under the supervision of the Executive Committee of 2017. The event presentation was followed by the financial report presentation by the former Treasurer and also the former Chair of WIE Affinity Group, Shaila Sharmin, where she presented the activities of the WIE Affinity Group of IASB.
Following all the presentations, the former Vice Chair along with the advisor and mentor, Kazi Khurshidi Haque Dia and Silvia Tasnim respectively, the names of the current executive committee was announced.
Kazi Khurshidi Haque Dia, advisor of IASB WIE Affinity Group, Silvia Tasnim, mentor of IASB, and Masoodur Rahman Khan, counselor of IASB were present in the meeting along with 43 student members of IASB.
Finally after some refreshment and photo session the AGM was concluded at around 6:30 pm.
IEEE AUST SB Industrial Tour 2017
To complete engineering education, practical knowledge is must for every engineering students and industries are the best place to acquire the hands-on knowledge. In view of this, IEEE AUST Student Branch organized a visit to country’s one of the leading electrical components manufacturer, Energypac for the student members.
The team for industrial visit consisted of 34 students and 4 faculty members. During the tour in the factories, the members were divided into two equal groups for better understanding of the processes. Under supervision of Engr. Md. Munirul Huda, expert engineers of Energypac Engineeing Ltd. showed students the principles of Cast Resin Transformer manufacturing, Operating procedure of Power and Instrument Transformer, High Voltage Lab, Switchgear Lab and Vacuum Circuit Breaker.
The visit gave the students a hands on knowledge on how the components of a power system are manufactured and tested. By visualizing the theoretical knowledge, this will surely have a lasting effect on the students.
Inter-University Seminar on Higher Studies in USA and Europe
Nowadays students are very much interested for pursuing their higher studies in abroad specially in USA and different countries of Europe after completing their undergraduate degrees. But because of having less knowledge about the procedure of processing, students don’t find proper guidance. For guiding these young students for their future goal, IEEE AUST Student Branch organized an inter university seminar on “Higher studies in USA and Europe”. The speakers were renowned faculty members of Ahsanullah university of science and technology.
Technical Discussion on Power distribution, protections and earthing system
Power distribution, protections and earthing systems are the most important issues in the field of Power system. Students of electrical engineering must have clear knowledge about these issues for research or job life. The students who do not have any power related subjects also should have knowledge about these issues for interviews and for practical issues. Thinking about these necessities, IEEE AUST Student Branch has arranged a technical discussion. Honorable ,Chairman, CEO, DGM and other guests of the most promising company named ” ADEX Group Of Companies and respected Head of the EEE dept., Dean of the Engineering dept. and Treasurer of AUST were present. Inter-University Programming Contest on MATLAB
Inter University Programming Contest on MATLAB was organized by IEEE AUST Student Branch on 4th August, 2016. The contest was aimed towards beginners and to familiarize everyone with MATLAB contests. The contest was a huge succes with over 60 participants, 17 of whom were from outside varsities. The prize giving ceremony was held on 6th August at the Seminar Hall of AUST. Among the present were the counselor of IEEE AUST SB, Masoodur Rahman Khan, Mentor of IEEE AUST SB, Md Faysal Nayan, respected teachers and judges, participants, volunteers and executive committee members. The winners of the contest were presented with certificates and prize money. The name of the winners are as below: Champion: Shaikh Abrar Kabir (AUST) 1st Runner Up: Tasnim Rahman (AUST) 2nd Runner Up: Rakibul Islam Chowdhury (BUET)
WORKSHOP ON ‘BUILD BEAUTIFUL WEBSITES YOURSELF’
IEEE AUST Student branch and Women in engineering (WIE) Affinity Group IEEE Bangladesh Section jointly organized a workshop on – “Website Designing” on 30th July at room no 7B03, Dept. of CSE, AUST for the undergraduate students of AUST. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Lamia Iftekhar, Vice-chair of WIE Affinity Group, IEEE Bangladesh Section. Masoodur Rahman Khan, Counselor of IEEE AUST SB, inaugurated the workshop and mentioned the importance of having personal website in this modern era. Dr. Lamia Iftekhar introduced the students to WIE Affinity Group and WIE AG BD Section. Several example websites were shown to participants before starting to build own websites. By the end of the workshop, the participants had built a website according to their choice. The workshop concluded with recognizing Dr. Lamia Iftekhar for her contribution as the instructor. The students were presented with certificates and were encouraged to continue developing their websites.
