[Webinar] Coordinating P2P Energy Markets and Distribution Networks for a Resilient Energy Future by Dr Sachinkumar Suthar

Online

Join Us for an Insightful Webinar on P2P Energy Markets & Grid Coordination! ⚡ Date & Time: 20th March 2025, 10:00 – 10:45 AM (SGT) Zoom Link: https://newcastleuniversity.zoom.us/j/83307177982 The rise of distributed energy resources (DERs), smart metering, and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) energy trading is transforming the electricity landscape. While P2P trading empowers prosumers and enhances sustainability, its integration into distribution networks poses challenges such as voltage limits, phase imbalances, and grid congestion. In this webinar, Dr. Sachinkumar Suthar (GE Vernova) will explore: ✅ The interplay between P2P markets & distribution network operators ✅ Strategies to ensure secure, efficient, and scalable P2P energy transactions ✅ The role of distributed ledger systems & advanced optimization in grid resilience Title: Coordinating P2P Energy Markets and Distribution Networks for a Resilient Energy Future Brief/Abstract: The rise of distributed energy resources, smart metering infrastructure, and Peer-to-Peer (P2P) energy trading is reshaping the electricity landscape, empowering prosumers to trade energy locally while enhancing sustainability and resilience. However, the seamless integration of P2P trading into distribution networks requires careful coordination to maintain grid stability and optimize market participation. This talk will focus on the critical interplay between the P2P market and distribution network operators in facilitating secure, efficient, and scalable energy transactions. It will explore how a well-coordinated approach can mitigate network constraints—such as voltage limits, phase imbalances, and grid congestion—while promoting fair and transparent P2P trading. By aligning economic incentives with technical feasibility, this coordination ensures that P2P trading benefits all stakeholders without compromising network reliability. The session will also highlight emerging technologies, including distributed ledger systems and advanced optimization techniques, to support the transition toward a decentralized and resilient energy ecosystem. About the speaker: Dr. Sachinkumar Suthar is an Application Engineer at GE Vernova, Bangalore, specializing in production cost simulation and generation expansion modelling for various countries. He earned his BE in Electrical Engineering from Vishwakarma Government Engineering College, Ahmedabad, in 2017, followed by an MTech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar in 2019, where he was awarded the Institute Gold Medal for outstanding academic performance. In 2024, he completed his PhD at IIT Gandhinagar, focusing on the implementation of Peer-to-Peer (P2P) energy markets in electrical distribution networks. His doctoral research involved developing and validating advanced optimization algorithms to enable efficient P2P energy trading among electricity prosumers and consumers. Dr. Suthar is a recipient of the prestigious Prime Minister’s Research Fellowship, awarded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. His research interests include peer-to-peer energy trading, demand response, power electronic converters, and the integration of blockchain technology in smart grids.
