ITU FG-SSC | Focus Group on Smart Sustainable Cities

1

We are following developments in an International Telecommunications Union Focus Group on Smart and Sustainable Cities; an open platform for smart-city stakeholders to exchange knowledge in the interests of identifying the standardized frameworks needed to support the integration of information and communication technology (ICT) services in smart cities.   We approach this topic from two points of view:

  • The academic perspective; examining the smart city as a sociological theory of action and contributing solutions that find their inspiration in urban cybernetics
  • The business perspective; finding opportunities in the smart city transformation for reducing the first and running cost of campus infrastructure.

It is one of our operating theses that campuses are “cities within cities” and (ICT) will be central to the smart city transformation.  Subject matter experts familiar with the scaling up of building internal controls are sensitive to key performance indicators and the interoperability principles for scaling up individual building controls into campuses and into entire cities.

Because ICT is so central to the smart city transformation the documents developed by this focus group will be on the agenda of both the September 8th European and American teleconferences of the IEEE Education & Healthcare Facility Committee teleconference.  You may join that call with the information contained in this link:
