IEEE knowledge groups are member- and volunteer-driven communities, providing cutting-edge research and knowledge sharing on various topics in engineering, humanity, and other technology areas. In Winnipeg, this is divided into Chapters, Affinity Groups, and Student Chapters.
- The IEEE Winnipeg Section has several active chapters that organize many events throughout the year such as seminars and conferences. One does not have to a member of a Chapter to participate in Chapter’s activities.

- There are three active IEEE Affinity Groups operating in Winnipeg. These are the Graduates Of the Last Decade (G.O.L.D.), Women In Engineering (W.I.E.) and Life Members. These groups are responsible for organizing the majority of the industry tours and networking events for the section.

- The IEEE Winnipeg Section has active student chapters at the University of Manitoba, Red River College, and Lakehead University. These chapters organize events throughout the year and provide resources to aide in their member’s education.
