Emerging Wireless Technologies for IoT

September 26, 2017 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Co-sponsored by Power Electronics Society (PELS)

Title: Emerging Wireless Technologies for IoT

Abstract: With wide-scale IoT solutions being implemented, we are seeing an emerging set of new wireless technologies being developed. The focus of much IoT innovation is on low power protocols that support remote battery-operated devices which send small amounts of data for a duration from months to years. This talk will provide an overview of new and existing wireless options available on the market today and describes the advantages and disadvantages of each. The trade-offs between range, data throughput, battery life, latency, cost, and availability will be discussed.

Speaker:  Walt Maclay, President, Voler Systems

Bio: Walt is founder of Voler Systems, one of the top electronic design firms in Silicon Valley.  He has been active in several consulting organizations.  He is a reviewer for NSF SBIR grants.  He has advised dozens of startup companies on technical and funding issues.  Mr. Maclay holds a BSEE degree in Electrical Engineering from Syracuse University.
