The Women in Engineering of the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria organized a webinar Coffee Talk on Thursday 04 April 2020 at 19.00, as part of #stay_home campaign.
This time, the guest of the Coffee Talk was Fani Dimou, who is a Software Engineer at LaceWing Tech company, and also is an interesting example of a rising young woman engineer in the world of technology.
The conversation started with Fani Dimou making an introduction about her progress, from her studies as an engineer at National Technological University of Athens until today. Afterwards, she was asked to talk about her experience on Google Summer of Code, her activities on Open Source Software, especially on Nextcloud, and the way all this occupation was an advantage on her professional development.
Furthermore, there were questions from the students who participated on this Coffee Talk about the treatment of women engineers on the job market and the tools she works with. It was very interesting for the participants to hear about the company in which Fani works, since, is mainly composed of women and supports diversity in the workplace. Fact, that matches the vision of IEEE and WiE, such as “Each for Equal”.
The Coffee Talk was carried out by Big Blue Button, a platform which was granted from the Telecommunications, Networks and Distributed Computing Laboratory. Ten members (men and women) of our Student Branch participated and the talk was an advantage for all members as there were answered a lot of questions, and members were encouraged so they continue their work productively and accomplish their goals.
