The Women in Engineering of the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria organized a webinar Coffee Talk on Tuesday 21 April 2020 at 18.00, as part of #stay_home campaign.
The guest of the Coffee Talk was Athina Giokarini, Game Designer at Seriously Digital Entertainment company at Finland about Game Industry (Development/Design) and the Life Aboard.
The conversation started with Athina talking about her professional job in the company she works and analyzing topics of her work. Afterwards, there were questions from the students so the talk was delved into more technical and functional themes.
By answering most questions, Athina gave students information about Game Design applications, tools and programming languages using by the company she works and also advice about applications that can be used from beginners in Game Development.
Furthermore, Athina explained life aboard and especially at Finland. She talked about her progress, her studies as an Architect at Democritus University of Thrace and her transition to postgraduate degree at Aalto University of Finland. She also pointed up that things have changed and advanced on the field of Gaming for women engineers, fact that boosted women students from WiE who have an interest in this field of knowledge.
The Coffee Talk was carried out by Cisco Webex Meetings. Fourteen members (men and women) of our Student Branch participated. The talk was very interesting since Game Development/Design aτtracts a lot of people and Athina gave detailed information and answered questions of members.
Finally, there is a chance at the near future to organize 2o part Coffee Talk with Athina.
