IEEE Canada Student Activities Committee (SAC) organizes the 2024 IEEE Canada Student Congress (SC) that will be held on September 13 – 15, 2024 at the Fairmont Hotel, Winnipeg.

The annual Student Leadership Congress has been running for over 20 years. Themed around Leadership & Innovation, this year’s Congress will foster collaboration between the generation of students and professionals and discuss the transition from student engineer to engineering practitioner.

  • The 2024 SC will feature a wide spectrum of interesting talks and panels given by eminent leaders in industry, academia, and government high institutions who will share their knowledge on the limitations and challenges of emerging AI technologies and how they will change education, teaching and corporate innovation.
  • The 2024 IEEE Canada SC represents an opportunity to assist you in tackling the professional development skills gap by learning from HR Managers, recruiters and hiring Managers of top-notch worldwide companies. This is also an opportunity to know about operational knowledge of IEEE, discuss challenges and practical solutions to run a successful Student Branch, network with industrials and HR managers looking to fulfill open internships and job positions and celebrate outstanding contributions of IEEE Canada Students involved in IEEE Canada Student activities.

Who Can Attend

This representative should ideally be the Student Branch Chair or Vice Chair for the 2024-2025 school year. However, any Student Branch Leader or Counsellor for the upcoming school year who has not attended the Congress previously can be the Student Branch Representative who is eligible for the travel reimbursement. Additional Student Branch Leaders and Counsellors may attend if space is available, but they will be responsible for their own travel expenses.

Registration fee: $500 per attendee of the Student Congress.

Travel reimbursements from IEEE Canada for up to 1000 CAD are provided for ONE Student Branch Representative who has never attended an IEEE Canada Student Congress in the past.  If this is insufficient for some delegates with longer distances to travel, please request additional funding with a detailed budget from the Region Treasurer (treasurer@ieee.ca) or Region President (president@ieee.ca).

Please make sure to purchase the lowest fare flight and approve rental cars by the Region’s Treasurer or the Region’s President. Please contact us if you would like to send additional members so that they can be placed on the waiting list. We advise you to request funding for travel costs for any additional attendees from external sources such as a generous sponsor, your institution, Student Branch, and/or Section.

Normally, funding requests and grant applications take some time to be processed, so please plan and apply ahead of time. Be sure to reach out to your Student Branch Counsellors as they are faculty members and may know about other funding options available.
