Grounding System Design
March 23, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm CDT
FreeThe presentation provides information on the types of grounding systems, associated benefits and disadvantages, the transition to resistively grounded systems, and the sizing of neutral grounding resistors for typical applications. This includes system charging current, resistor let-through current, duty cycle, and associated information in relation to NEC and CSA requirements for impedance grounding systems. Lastly, the differences between low-resistance and high-resistance grounding will be outlined. Real life applications will be provided.
Speaker:
Said Shalabi is currently a Technical Sales Engineer for I-Gard Corporation and has been with the company since 2019, where he has been involved in product development, project management, technical support, and consulting. His current scope of work includes assisting consultants in identifying optimal ground solutions specific to their application; being a technical reference for Engineers and end users. Before then, Said sought his BASc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa, where he specialized in Power Engineering. Said will be accompanied by Sergio Panetta, Vice-President of I-Gard Corporation. Sergio is a graduate of McMaster University (BEng ’83, MEng ’97) with almost 4 decades of electrical engineering experience in switchgear design, commissioning, troubleshooting, power system protection, and power system grounding. Sergio continues to actively increase awareness on electrical safety on a global front. A senior member of IEEE, and member of the EIT, Sergio has been awarded Consulting Engineering status with the PEO professional body.
