Abstract:
This presentation will cover topics in GIS substation switching events and origins of VFT (very fast transients), modeling of a GIS station for VFT analysis, and impact of VFT on bushings and other equipments.
It will discuss transformer bushing failure events at a GIS station in the Middle East, and the application of root cause analysis in studies and physical inspection.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Dharshana Muthumuni, Ph.D. P.Eng. joined the HVDC Centre in June 2001 and is the machines and transformer simulation specialist. He is currently the Manager of Engineering Simulations and Studies at the Manitoba HVDC Research centre. Dharshana has been involved in numerous engineering studies, simulation model development projects and research collaborations during his career. His technical knowledge on power system behaviour, model development and simulation studies are regularly sought out by clients around the world.
Mr. Les Recksiedler P.Eng. CIM – Mr. Recksiedler has over 39 years of experience with the power equipment associated with the AC and DC Stations at Manitoba Hydro. He is actively involved in the IEEE Bushing Subcommittee, is Vice Chair of the GSU bushing Standard Working Group and IEEE Chair of the joint IEE/IEC – DC Bushing Standard Revision Working Group. His experience includes design reviews, testing, design modifications and analysis of failed bushings. He is currently Business Development Manager at The Manitoba HVDC Research Centre.
