JAM (Just A Minute)

 

 

JAM is an event which tests the fluency of the language combined with the quick wit of the mind. The marking is based on one metric, the duration to which each speaker can speak without stuttering, stammering, committing grammatical errors or repeating content of their own speech or that of the previous speakers. It is the role of the other participants to actively and call them out in case of breach of any of the rules. It is up to the JAM master’s discretion to consider or drop the objection. The objection is raised by saying ‘JAM’.

 

ROUND 1, 2, 3:

 

Each of these rounds shall be 1 minute long. The speaker that is speaking at the end of the minute is awarded ten points, while otherwise, a speaker gets one point per second that they speak. If an objection is raised, and accepted, the speaker that raised the objection, then proceeds to speak.

ROUND 4,5:

 

If the number of participants is more than 5, top 5 are selected on the basis of points. In case of a ties, they will be resolved on the basis of which speaker spoke continuously for the longest amount of time. These rounds will be 2 minutes long. Speakers are awarded 10 points at the end of a minute. Each speaker is awarded two points for every second that they speak. 

 

Rules and Regulations:

  1. One point per second spoken for the preliminary rounds.
  2. Two points per second spoken, for the final rounds.
  3. Half a point is awarded to each successfully raised objection
  4. Ten points awarded to participant speaking till the end of 60 seconds.
  5. In case of any discrepancies, the judge’s verdict shall be final.
