IEEE Bangalore Section and IEEE MSRIT in collaboration with IEEE Young Professionals Bangalore Team and global IEEE Young Professionals committee organised a two day, hands-on iOS App Development workshop using Swift programming language at Apple Lab, MSRIT on 20th and 21st August 2016. This workshop was organised by Mr. Vikram Sharma, Vice Chairman at IEEE YP Bangalore Section, Dr. N Sriraam, branch counsellor – IEEE MSRIT student branch and Dr. Vijaya Kumar B P, HOD of ISE Department. All the required resources and technical support was provided by ISE Department.
The event started off with an introduction by Mr. Vikram Sharma who briefed the young professionals, students and trainers about the workshop.

The trainers included :
- Gokul Sengottuvelu, Technical Lead at nuVizz.inc. He is a seasoned mobile professional with specialisation in iOS Technologies. He also spearheads and runs the iOS Developer Meetup Group in Bangalore which is one of the largest group of iOS developers in India.
- Archita Bansal, iOS Application Developer at CitrusPay. She has previously worked with Stayzilla and IBM.
- Parminder Singh, CTO & Co-Founder at Hansel.io. He has over half a decade of experience of building next generation mobile products.He has previously worked as part of the Flipkart Ebooks iOS team to create the e-Reading experience in India. He was also a part of the core team that developed Flipkart’s Flyte MP3 for Android.
- Marimuthu Ravindran, Technical Lead at iPass. He has over 10 years of proven IT experience in developing software applications for iOS, MAC OS X and Windows platforms using agile methodologies. He previously worked at nuVizz.inc as a principal software analyst.
The two-day long sessions included Basics of iOS, Swift basics, Core graphics, Layouts, Constraints, Model View Controller (MVC), Life cycle of View Controller, Notifications, UI Views, Network Communications, Interaction over web and View Controllers. The participants were asked to design a Classroom app on paper and also were given hands on training in designing a Weather app using which the temperature from any city could be fetched.
There were 30 – 35 Young Professionals and students participating in this workshop, who included participants not only from Bangalore but also Mysore, Belgaum, Mandya and Chennai, all of them extremely enthusiastic about iOS App Development.
This international level workshop provided burgeoning iOS developers, an opportunity to learn and develop apps from experts. Furthermore, the workshop was a great platform for networking and connecting aspiring entrepreneurs with developers. The workshop received a lot of positive feedback from the Young Professionals as well as students on the quality of the content, pedagogy of the instructors, the facilities provided by the Apple Lab, ISE Department and the well organised sessions by IEEE MSRIT Student Branch and IEEE Young Professionals Bangalore Section.
