The Women in Engineering of the Student Branch of the IEEE of the University of Western Macedonia in Kastoria organized an online Coffee Talk, on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 18:00 on “Gender Equality in the Time of Covid-19” within the week IEEE Greece Section Women in Engineering Week 2021 which was dedicated to the International Women’s Day which was attended by over 40 participants.
The Coffee Talk began with a Presentation for the IEEE Women in Engineering, by the Chair of Women in Engineering Affinity Group, Marianna Bosiaka.
Our first guest was Ms. Vicky Mastora, Psychologist and member of the Psychological and Counseling Structure of the University of Western Macedonia, after she presented us the Structure she talked to us about issues like relationships and cohabitation between people regardless of their gender in the difficult period of COVID-19. It was also discussed how they affect the psychology of the individual, as well as their relationships with others and analyzed stereotypical perceptions that exist in our society and how they affect the relationships between individuals. It was also said how a negative situation can be changed and how improving it can benefit each of us. In the end, the audience got to ask Ms. Mastora some questions.
Our second guest was Ms. Georgia (Iria) Saridaki, Graduate student of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens and Section Student Representative at the IEEE Greece Section. After giving us a brief presentation on her role in IEEE and her academic background, she talked about how COVID-19 has affected the daily life of a young student, the personal experiences of herself, and some good practices she implemented during the lockdown. She also shared with us shining examples of women who are pioneers in their field both in academia and industry. In the end, the participants adressed questions to Ms. Saridaki and expressed their views and thoughts on her presentation.
The discussion gave everyone enough food for thought and left us all with beautiful and hopeful feelings.
