BIO:

Ricardo Arias Velásquez is a Peruvian-Spanish-American scholar known for his contributions to Renewable energy solutions, artificial intelligence in energy design & engineering failure analysis. He did his postdoctoral research for MIT – UTEC, he holds a PhD in Engineering from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Master Science degree in Engineering and three Bachelor degrees in Electrical engineering, Project engineering & Computer Science by Universidad Nacional de San Agustín.

About research/scientist profile, Arias is IEEE PES PERU Chapter Chair 2021-2022, Editor associate in IEEE Latin America Transactions, IEEE Publication chair in IEEE ISGT 2021 Latin America, professor and researcher in “Universidad Tecnológica del Perú – UTP”. Prior, he was researcher at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín and a Postdoctoral researcher  of Massachusetts Institute of Technology & Universidad de Tecnología e Ingeniería – UTEC’s School of Engineering from 2019 – 2020.

Between 2016 and 2020 Arias led MIT’s Collective Researching group as an leader and Professor at UTEC. Prior to joining UTEC-MIT, Arias was a research fellow at UNSA, UAP, UPA, UTEC & MIT. Arias is also a founder of Advanced Smart Solutions, a company dedicated to artificial intelligence specialized in the creation of data visualization, knowledge management, sharing value, IA and machine learning applications

Work experience (+ 15 years): Currently, He is accountable of the operational efficiency in the biggest renewable power plants (BESS, Solar, Wind & Hydro) and innovation projects in ENEL, he evaluates all the wind farms around the world for ENEL, with artificial intelligence techniques, for more than 14 countries and 6,500 wind turbines generators. Before, He has been Project Manager in Engie and ISA, project engineer in Engie, coordinator in REP, operation head in ElectroSur, mining supervisor in Freeport-McMoRan and Yura. He has extensive experience in EPCM energy and mining projects from CAPEX, pre-feasibility, execution, commissioning, operation & maintenance. Summary, He has built more than 20 substations in industry and mining, 4500 km of transmission lines and power plants in 3 countries: USA, Peru and Chile.

Arias’s contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the 2021, 1st award in Innovation for Power G ENEL (Colombia, Perú), in 2020: He obtained the IEEE outstanding volunter 2020, 1st award in Digital Hackaton ENEL, drone award – ENEL and multiple Innovation award in (SNMPE) 2017, 2015; transmission projects in ISA (Colombia) 2015, REP in 2013, 2014, 2016 (Perú) and Uruguay – CIER in 2014. Arias‘s is also the author of several papers associated to: Engineering, decision science, energy, material science, mathematics, physics and environmental science.
