Dear IDC members,

with sorrow, we announce the death of Professor Donald Novotny on the 7th of May 2022.

In addition to being a pioneer in our field, Prof. Novotny also served as the first chair of the then newly formed IAS Electric Machines Committee, in 1986-1987. We extend our heartfelt condolences to our colleagues at WEMPEC and to Prof. Novotny’s family.
