“A Conversation with David Wallis” was recorded July 24, 2014, on his last day as Director of Engineering Standards for U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration. Mr. Wallis reflects on past, present and future efforts to prevent occupational electrical injuries and fatalities. His career with OSHA spanned 41 years and his responsibilities included developing all OSHA regulations related to occupational electrical safety.
The interview was conducted on behalf of the IEEE Industry Applications Society Electrical Safety Committee.

At the time Mr. Wallis was Director of Engineering Standards for U.S. Occupational Safety & Health Administration. His responsibilities included developing all OSHA regulations related to occupational electrical safety.

Historical Document – Electrical Hotwork Safety Program (1987)
In 1987, Bruce McClung and John Gallagher self-published “Electrical Hotwork Safety Program”. The book documented leading-edge concepts in electrical safety work practices and influenced an expansion of the safe work practices content of the 1988 and 1995 revisions to NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace and the 1998 publication of IEEE Standard 902, Guide to Maintenance, Operation and Safety of Industrial and Commercial Power Systems (IEEE Yellow Book)
