Future Industry applications seminar 2024 of IEEE CSS/SMSC/RA Chapter of Finland

The traditional yearly seminar of IEEE CSS/SMSC/RA Chapter of Finland will be organized on 06.11.2024, 13 – 17.30h, room 253, R2, (Rakennus- ja ympäristötekniikka), Aalto University, Rakentajanaukio 4 A, 02150 Espoo. To address the trends in smart industry, robotics & AI, the theme this year is ‘Smart industry applications towards Industry 5.0‘. The half-day seminar will have keynote presentations from distinguished researchers, as well as a panel discussion. The event aims to bring the Finnish engineering community of researchers, professionals and students around the topics of robotics and automation and their related fields.

13:30 – 14.10 – Prof. Shankar Deka, Aalto University, Data-driven certification for safety and performance in modern control systems.

14:10 – 14:50 – Prof. Simo Särkkä, Aalto University, Role of GPU computing in large-scale model predictive control.

15:10 – 15:50 – Prof. Iiro Harjunkoski, Aalto University, Combining data analytics with production optimization.

15:50 – 16:30 – Prof. Francesco Corona, Aalto University, A model-based control framework for operating full-scale wastewater treatment plants as energy-autonomous water resource recovery facilities.

16:30 – 17:10 – Distinguished lecturer, Prof. Thomas Badgwell, UT Austin, A Practitioner’s Assessment of Deep Reinforcement Learning for Industrial Process Control Applications.
