Syed Ahmad
Power and Energy Track Chair
Syed Ahmad is an electrical engineer in the Division of Reliability Standards within the Office of Electric
Reliability (OER) at Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). Syed holds Bachelor of Engineering
and Master of Science degrees in the field of electrical engineering with emphasis on power system.
Syed also holds professional engineer (PE) license in the state of Maryland and Missouri. Syed is a senior
member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Currently, Syed is the Chair of
IEEE-PELS and IEEE-PES Baltimore Section. Syed is very familiar with electric utility regulations,
principles, and practices at the state and federal level. Worked on NERC Reliability Standards petition,
utility rate filings, utility certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN), filed testimonies on the issues
related to jurisdictional allocation of transmission & distribution facilities, system energy losses, and
territorial agreements. Performed NERC Reliability Readiness Evaluation/Audit related to Balancing
Authority, Transmission Operator, Transmission Owner, and Reliability Coordinator as a part of NERC
audit team. Prior to joining FERC, Syed worked at Ameren Services in St. Loui, MO where he was
involved in performing generation and transmission interconnection studies. On a regular basis Syed
volunteer for IEEE Robot Challenge and FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC).
