IGARSS 2025 Promotion and Exchange Session was successfully held
On November 25, 2024, from 19:00 to 20:30, the IEEE GRSS Wuhan Student Chapter successfully held an academic sharing session in Room 101 of the Xinghu Experimental Building at Wuhan University. The event featured a special presentation by Professor Xiuping Jia, Co-Chair of IGARSS 2025 and an IEEE Fellow, along with valuable experiences shared by two outstanding Ph.D. students, Jiepan Li and Haonan Guo, in the GRSS Data Fusion Contest and the IGARSS Student Paper Competition, respectively.
Professor Xiuping Jia began with the historical background of the IGARSS conference, introducing the preparation status, highlights, and basic information about the host city, Brisbane, for the 2025 conference. She also provided a detailed explanation of the submission process, summer school, and other academic opportunities, engaging in lively interactions with the audience.
Jiepan Li, a Ph.D. student at Wuhan University and currently the Vice Chair of the IEEE GRSS Wuhan Student Chapter, won the double-track championship in the IEEE GRSS Global Data Fusion Competition and the IEEE Whispers Multimodal Semantic Segmentation Competition in 2024. His journey from a novice in scientific research to a “grand slam winner” in the GRSS Data Fusion Contest offered practical experience to the attendees.
Haonan Guo, a Ph.D. student at Wuhan University, serves as the Chair of the IEEE GRSS Wuhan Student Chapter and an IEEE GRSS Young Professional Ambassador. He was nominated for the IGARSS 2024 Global Best Student Paper (one of 10 globally). In his presentation, Guo focused on integrating artificial intelligence (AI) with ChatGPT for the construction of large-scale geospatial data models, enabling remote sensing technology to achieve broader applications. He exchanged ideas with many students, providing practical methods and suggestions.
The event received high praise from the audience, not only helping faculty and students to further understand the latest developments of the IGARSS 2025 conference but also providing important guidance and inspiration for young scholars on the path of scientific research. In the future, the IEEE GRSS Wuhan Student Chapter will continue to organize more high-quality academic exchange activities to support student growth and development.
