Welcome to the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power and Energy Society (PES) Winnipeg Chapter website. The IEEE PES Winnipeg Chapter serves over 90 members consisting of industry leaders, practitioners, academics, and students with a common professional interest in power and energy. The IEEE PES’ mission is “to be the leading provider of scientific and engineering information of energy for the betterment of society, and the preferred professional development source for our member” as approved by the IEEE PES Governing Board, 17 July 2003. The Winnipeg Chapter adopts this mission as our own to specifically apply to the Winnipeg community. Additionally, the Winnipeg chapter strives to be internationally recognized as an outstanding IEEE PES Chapter.
Our Chapter offers numerous technical meetings throughout the year. Previous topics covered Voltage Source Converter HVDC Technology, Manitoba Hydro’s Past and Present Activities of Geomagnetically Induced Current, A Computer Vision Early-Warning Ice Detection System for the Smart Grid, and AC Filters for Systems with Multiple DC In-feeds. The planning, coordinating, and delivering of these events are not possible without the diligence of our volunteers. The Chapter is always in search of new volunteers to help build on our successes. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for the Winnipeg IEEE PES, please contact me at my email below. We also have an open invitation to anyone who would like to deliver a presentation at one of our technical meetings. If you have a topic to present to the Winnipeg PES, please contact me.
