Robotics for 21st Century

The event ‘Robotics for 21st Century’ was a webinar which was held virtually via Zoom on 17th January 2021 by IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa. 

The welcome speech was delivered by the event co-chair, Mr. Akila Uyanwatta and afterwards, the moderator, Miss. Dinithi Hemakumara gave a brief introduction about the guest speaker and welcomed him to conduct the webinar. 

The guest speaker, Mr. Gamini Dissanayake held the James N. Kirby distinguished professorship of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia. He, who currently works as an emeritus professor attached to that University, has made an immense contribution to the field of

Mechatronics Engineering and Robotics over the past few decades. He conducted his speech on the advances of robotics and shared his vast experience on the field of Robotics throughout his speech. Questions were raised by the audience through the slido platform where the speaker eagerly shared his expertise by answering them. 

The chapter advisor, Dr. Peshala Jayasekara addressed the gathering admiring the success of the event and expressed his views on the discussed topic. The event was concluded after the vote of thanks by the event co-chair, Mr. Gayanagana Leelarathna. 

IEEE IES Career Guidance Program

The Career Guidance Program of the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter was held  virtually via zoom on 14th October 2020. 

 The chairman of the IES student branch chapter, Mr. Oshada Jayasinghe welcomed  the guests and the event co-chair, Mr. Deepana Ishtaweera gave an introduction about the  IES chapter and the event. 

The first guest speaker, Mr. Kosala Jayasundara who is the founder of Excel Tech  Consulting LTD, Co-Founder of Elextrone LTD and a visiting lecturer of University of  Moratuwa gave a very thought-provoking speech about the current status and the future  opportunities in the electronic industry of Sri Lanka. The second guest speaker, Mr. Keerthi  Kodithuwakku who is the CEO of Effective Solutions PVT LTD as well as the CEO of  Jendo Innovations PVT LTD, delivered an inspiring speech about ways of overcoming  challenges in the industry and explained about skills and qualities that should be built in  order to succeed in the career. Afterwards, there was a career-related question and answer  session where the audience was allowed to clarify their problems directly from the guest  speakers. 

 The chapter advisor, Dr. Peshala Jayasekara addressed the gathering admiring the  success of the event and motivated to arrange these kinds of sessions for undergraduates in  the future. The event was concluded after the vote of thanks by the event co-chair, Mr.  Yasod Ginige.
