I, Rangaswamy K, as an IEEE student member BITM had attended the conference at Nokia office dated on 6 September 2018 with institute’s (BITM) funding. My experience was that I came to know many new things about machine learning as I was unaware about that and came to know about the functionalities of 2G, 3G, 4G, 5G and all about the servers. I came across the road show where all the projects were showcased. I had worked on a similar project earlier which was showcased in a competition – Sambhram. I felt happy that I too can work on standard projects which can be at par with norms. Later, I had a discussion with one of the senior IEEE members and also with Mr. Krishna Rao (Global marketing manager, Nokia) and I came to know what all the things I have to learn for my future carrier just from this one day conference at Nokia office. I thank my institutional management and branch counselor for giving me this opportunity.

This competition helped the students to explore their creativity and thus many students had come up with great ideas of logo designs. As it was the very first event every one of them participated with extreme enthusiasm and with a competitive spirit. All the IEEE members were also excited as it was our first event that we organized and we are looking forward to organize and participate in many such events in the coming days. The main objective of this event was to bring awareness among the students community about IEEE and its purpose.

Clarified doubts like ‘how IEEE is beneficial even for Mechanical Engineering?’, ‘how to popularize the newly set up student branch in the college?’, similarly Q&A’s of same orientation were asked and clear cut description was briefed by our guest and overall it was a very informative session to all of us. We, the handful of IEEE student members, were highly privileged and we deeply thank our management and branch counselor Dr. Manjula R for giving us this wonderful opportunity of having our very first IEEE pre-event with an eminent professor from prestigious institution of our country. The interaction kindled our young minds and motivated us to set-up high goals for our yet to form student branch. Now we are just waiting with crossed figures to hear the branch formation approval news from head office.

We the students of BITM are glad that we were permitted to visit and interact with IEEE student branch execom members of NIE MYSURU. We were interacting with them to know more about IEEE student branch: how to expand the community, how to keep it active, what are the responsibilities of the execom members, what sub-committees could be formed and what are their job roles, and etc. The Chair LIMITA SHETTY, Focusing group lead YESHWANTH and the Creative group head were helping us to know more the whole structure, contribution, rules & regulations of their IEEE Student branch which has sparked its inception in 1990. At the end, we were able to come up with a structure that would effectively manage our prospective branch and lead us towards success.
