Topic: Automated Demand Response with Internet of Things – An Assessment of Opportunities
Speaker: Ramesh Hariharan, Founder/President/CEO – Compusharp Inc
Automated Demand Response (ADR) is a voluntary program that compensates end-use (retail) customers for reducing their electricity use (load), when requested by an electric utility, during periods of high power prices or when the reliability of the grid is threatened. Demand response provides an opportunity for consumers to play a significant role in the operation of the electric grid by reducing or shifting their electricity usage during peak periods in response to time-based rates or other forms of financial incentives.
Internet of Things (IOT) is becoming a reality, and has applicability in the field of Automated Demand Response. Distributed Energy Resources are gaining more share of the Generation. Intelligent sensors create new opportunities for implementing advanced functions at various levels of the grid, including retail customers, power aggregators, utilities and ISO’s. This talk would cover a survey of recent advances in the field of application of IOT’s with regard to electric grid control in general, and to Demand Response in particular.
Lunch will be provided (includes vegetarian). There will be a $5 fee to IEEE Members and a $10 fee to Non Members. Payments to be made in person (cash or check) at the event.
