Task Force on Multi-scale Modeling and Simulation of HVDC and FACTS

Background & Motivations for the Task Force

AC-DC power systems with integrated AC and HVDC technologies including power electronic converters are of increasing interest. There are different types of transients in AC-DC power systems, such as high-frequency electromagnetic transients and low-frequency electromechanical transients. The accurate and efficient simulation of diverse AC-DC transients over large time scales will support the in-depth analysis and opens the opportunity of real-time applications to ensure operational security and stability of AC-DC power systems. There are some multi-scale modeling techniques, such as FAST, parallel computing, co-simulation, for power system transients simulation. This task force aims to apply these methods to the HVDC system with integrated power electronic converters, and to show the values of multi-scale modeling techniques. The focus of TF is application and test cases. The researchers interested are welcomed to join this task force.
