Publications
IAS IDC supports the publications of papers at conferences, in IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and IEEE Industry Applications Magazine. In order to be considered for publication in Transactions or the Magazine, authors must first present their work at an IAS-sponsored conference and then request an invitation to submit a paper to the Transactions or Magazine. The only exception to the conference-first policy is special sessions organized by the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications.
Conferences are categorized as “Financially Sponsored or Co-Sponsored”, and “Technically Co-Sponsored”. Generally, all papers from a conference that is financially sponsored by IAS are eligible for an invitation to submit to Transactions. In the case of technically co-sponsored conferences, the annual MOU between the conference and the society defines whether or not papers may be invited to submit a version to Transactions. Typically, for technical co-sponsorship, the conference organizers may identify up to 20% of the papers as eligible to receive an invitation.
Conferences
IAS Sponsored Conferences relevant to the Industrial Drives Committee include: ECCE, IEMDC, APEC, ITEC, SDEMPED, SLED (even years)
Technically Co-sponsored conferences include: ICEM, ICEMS, SPEEDAM, EVER, WEMDCD, PIICON, IICPE, PEMC, ICRERA, ICPEICES, ECCE ASIA, EPE ECCE-EUROPE, and many others.
Transactions and Magazine
There is a single review process for Transactions on Industry Applications and Industry Applications Magazine. Publications Chair recommends accepting papers to one publication or the other. In practice, the vast majority of IDC papers are published in Transactions on Industry Applications.
In the case of an IAS Sponsored Conference, you must wait until after the conference is over. To request an invitation please email the following information to the Publications Chair:
- Corresponding author given name, family name, and email (this must be the email that you use with your Industry Applications Manuscript Central Account)
- Affiliation
- Paper Title
- Conference Name and Date
For co-sponsored conferences, the organizers must identify first the papers eligible to receive an invitation. In case of doubts, the authors are invited to contact the Editor-in-Chief.
Also, please consider if the IDC is the most appropriate committee for your paper. More appropriate alternatives may include the Electric Machines Committee, the Renewable and Sustainable Energy Conversion Systems Committee, or the Transportation Systems Committee.
Typically, you will have four weeks to submit your paper after the invitation is issued, please do not request an invitation until you are ready to submit your paper. Your paper must be in the IEEE Transactions Template, available from the IAS publications web page (http://ias.ieee.org/publications.html).
To be in compliance with the new IEEE publications policy (8.1.7 of PSPB operating manual 2016) IAS board requires the following actions by authors submitting papers to IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and the IEEE Industry Applications Magazine.
- The Transaction / Magazine paper must not be a verbatim copy of the Conference paper. The authors are required to make changes to their paper after the presentation at the conference. The authors may consider changing the title, adding references, adding or simplifying illustrations, and adding or simplifying text in the body of the paper. They are asked to provide a brief description (200 words) of the revisions in the cover letter field in Scholar 1. Otherwise, they can highlight the changes in the uploaded paper. At least, a change of 20% is expected.
- All papers submitted to Transactions / Magazine must be modified to add a citation of the original conference paper
- Presentation before Publication policy gives authors the opportunity to receive informed expert feedback prior to journal submission. Authors should try to incorporate conference feedback into their papers prior to publication in Transactions / Magazine. Also, all the authors of the conference paper must be included in the list of authors of the Transactions paper.
