IEEE and its members inspire a global community through IEEE’s highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities.

IEEE Joint German Chapter History
The Joint IEEE Industry Applications Society, Power Electronics Society and Industrial Electronics Society (IAS/PELS/IES) German Chapter originated from the IEEE-IAS German Chapter which was founded December 18th, 1997. To strengthen our Chapter activities and to guarantee longevity a merger with the PELS and IES into one German Chapter was desirable. With the approval of a large number of IAS members, combined with the support of many PELS and IES members and the support of the IEEE Germany Section, the petition to create a Joint Chapter was swiftly submitted to the IEEE Headquarters. The Joint IAS/PELS Chapter was approved March 12th, 1999 and the Joint IAS/PELS/IES was formed Chapter February 28th, 2001.
Our Societies (IAS – PELS – IES)
Our common interest in the Joint chapter is power electronics.
All three societies are active in the areas of
- controls,
- drives,
- power electronic devices and converters and
- industrial applications thereof.
Each society organizes a conference annually, i.e., the IAS Annual Meeting, the Power Electronics Specialists Conference (PESC) and the Annual Conference of the Industrial Electronics Society (IECON). Jointly, the IAS and PELS annually organize the Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC).
