IEEE SoutheastCon 2018 Florida West Coast Section - Tampa Bay Area, Florida Conference Dates: April 19, 2018 through April 22, 2018 Hilton Bayfront St. Petersburg SoutheastCon is the annual IEEE Region 3 Technical, Professional, and Student Conference. It brings together Computer Scientists, Electrical, and Computer Engineering professionals, faculty and students to share the latest information through technical sessions, tutorials, and exhibits. It is the most influential conference in Region 3 for promoting awareness of the technical contributions made by our profession to the advancement of engineering science and to the community. As usual, attendance and technical program participation from areas outside IEEE Region 3 are encouraged and welcomed. Sponsorship There are many opportunities for organizations to show their support for the activities of IEEE Region-3 and to actively participate in IEEE SoutheastCon 2018. Conference activities include: A technical conference portion comprised of workshops, tutorial sessions, technical paper sessions, poster sessions, and technical exhibits. Topics include the broad discipline of technologies associated with Electrical and Computer Engineering. A student conference portion, which attracts the brightest engineering students and university faculty from across the Southeast USA. It will explore how our world is increasingly managed by algorithms reflected in technologies such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, autonomous vehicles, renewable energy, and biomechanical innovations. Technology is complex. Technology requires applications of knowledge, exploits natural resources that exist in finite quantities, and must yield benefits to humans. A common belief is technology can solve any problem, but both the problems and the solutions are the result of human choices. The session will discuss why technical professionals must occupy a space within every field, making them multi-disciplinary. Their practices require ethical and societal scrutiny, wisely pursuing understanding of the societal impact of technology This session will leverage the presenter’s unique view into the world of technical professionals dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.
