The IEEE WPR PES / CHRES / UPRM Creative Design Challenge on Renewable Energy involves students in critical thinking, the engineering design process, the use of learning drawing tools in engineering graphics, computer-aided drawing (CAD) and teamwork. Students have to solve a “real-world problem” that promotes and challenges the knowledge acquired on topics related to renewable energy. Three types of renewable energy ideas will be evaluated: Wave Energy, Biomass, Hydroelectric, Hybrid Systems and Wind Farms. On December 17, 2020, a “review panel” will select the 10 best renewable energy design concepts. These winners will advance to the “Assembly / Arduino / Award Day” that will take place on February 7, 2021.

Position Sensor Signal Conditioning for Industrial Applications – WESTERN PUERTO RICO SP01/CAS04 CHAPTER on 30-September-2015
Sunday, September 27th, 2015Position sensing is one of the most critical measurements in industrial hydraulics systems. Linear Variable Displacement Transformers (LVDTs) are one of the most common sensors used to measure position. The sensor requires AC excitation on primary coil and sensing on secondary coils. Sensor non linearity, temperature coefficient and sensitivity levels must be considered and properly compensated for. In addition signal amplitude and phase information sensed on the secondary requires demodulation to map the displacement within the sensor. These applications present a great case study covering the interaction between analog design aspects and digital signal processing. This presentation covers analog techniques for front end design, excitation circuit, signal processing, their implementation and silicon results. Various system level analysis techniques and performance parameters are discussed as well.
