Embedded Systems Workshop: Beginners

Abstract:

In this workshop, participants will learn about the Arduino development board and the Arduino IDE. They will be guided through a series of tutorials to turn LEDs on/off and to read inputs from a pushbutton.

An Arduino is required for this workshop. Participants who do not have their own Arduino may purchase one from UMIEEE for $30.

Refreshments will be served from 20:00pm – 21:00pm in E1-514 EITC (IEEE Lounge).

Pre-Requisites:

Some programming experience required.

$5 for IEEE student members per workshop
$10 for non-members per workshop

Abstract:

In this workshops participants will learn about the Arduino UNO development board, and the Arduino IDE. They will be guided through a series of tutorials to turn LEDs on/off and how to read inputs from a pushbutton.

Abstract:

This hands-on workshop series uses the Arduino UNO boards and exposes students to I/O ports, analog inputs, communicaiton protocols, peripherals, some shields (advanced workshop), and cool projects to learn about remote control operations.

Participants will use an Arduino UNO during the lab and have the option of purchasing the unit for $30 to continue experimenting at home.

Refreshments will be served from 5:00pm-6:00pm in E1-514 EITC (IEEE Lounge).

$10 for non-members per workshop

UMIEEE: Introduction to LaTeX Seminar

Abstract:

Back due to popular demand, UMIEEE is proud to offer Introduction to LaTeX.

LaTeX is a powerful typesetting system, used for producing scientific and mathematical documents. Unlike WYSIWYG tools such as MS Word, it uses plain text files that contain formatting commands making it very suitable for large documents.

Presentation outline:

  • What is TeX and why should I use it?
  • Installation and configuration
  • Basic document class and compilation
  • Cross-references, labels, and table of contents
  • Abstracts and keywords
  • Bullets and lists
  • Images and floating
  • Equations and the math environment
