Abstract:
Telecommuting — working remotely with workmates — is quickly becoming an everyday reality for many, enabled by ubiquitous network connectivity, and portable computing devices. In this talk, I discuss how representations of remote co-workers enable certain kinds of work, and hinder others. I describe several research projects that explore different configurations of remote video representation, showing how changes in framing and setting affect the utility and task space enabled by these video representations.
