Dr. Mónica López-González
Dr. Mónica López-González is an English, French, Spanish, Italian-speaking Cognitive Scientist, Multidisciplinary Artist, Educator, Entrepreneur, Public Speaker, Science Communicator, and Writer. Fascinated by the cognitive relationships between creative artistic, emotional, musical, and linguistic behavior, she merges methods, data, and theory from both the Sciences and the Arts. She is the Co-Founder and Executive Scientific & Artistic Director of La Petite Noiseuse Productions, a company at the forefront of innovative Science-Art integration pushing the boundaries of empirical experimentation, artistic storytelling, and public engagement in various languages. In her role of Scientific Director, she heads the company’s unique research and development program in creativity and human intelligence. In her role of Artistic Director, she develops and creates the company’s original artistic content as writer, director, photographer, and actor within music, theatre, film, and photography. Mónica has pioneered many STEAM courses and workshops at the intersection of the mind/brain and computational sciences and the visual, literary, and performing arts at Johns Hopkins University, Maryland Institute College of Art, and other organizations. She is a program committee member for the international Human Vision & Electronic Imaging (HVEI) conference for the Society for Imaging Science and Technology (IS&T) and co-chairs its newest Art & Perception session. Mónica was recently named a Particular Imaginative Polymath by the Imagination Institute based at the University of Pennsylvania’s Positive Psychology Center. Her speaking engagements include with Dr. deGrasse Tyson on StarTalk TV for National Geographic, Rochester Institute of Technology, the National Academy of Sciences, International Human Vision & Electronic Imaging Conference, Society for the Neuroscience of Creativity, DOD-DARPA, Capital One, T. Rowe Price, Apexart Gallery, Maryland Art Place, Ignite Baltimore, WYPR 88.1FM radio, and at international conferences and festivals (Scotland, Spain, Mexico, Italy), among others. Mónica holds B.A. degrees in Psychology and French, and a M.A. and Ph.D. in Cognitive Science, all from Johns Hopkins University, a Certificate of Art in Photography from Maryland Institute College of Art, studied piano in the Preparatory and Conservatory at the Peabody Institute, and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
