Leading with Influence

IEEE WIE Victorian Section provided this great opportunity to host Teagan Dowler, the founder of The BCW, to share tips and strategies to communicate more effectively, motivate and influence and manage conflict with a diverse range of people. It was held on Tuesday, 17 April 2018 at RMIT University, Melbourne, VIC 3000.

            

Workshop
Being able to understand and influence others is a critical skill for succeeding in the workplace. In this workshop, you will learn foundational techniques for understanding others through the practical application of the DISC behavioural model. In this session, you will learn how to spot different behavioural indicators in the people you work with to build a deeper understanding of what makes them tick. From this understanding, you will learn how to apply practical strategies to communicate more effectively, motivate and influence and manage conflict with a diverse range of people.

Biography
Teagan Dowler is the founder of The BCW, an organisation which supports individuals, associations and organisations to develop and deliver initiatives to achieve greater diversity and inclusion within the heavy industries of Australia. Teagan has significant large scale Civil Construction, Iron Ore, Coal and Engineering industry experience in the areas of Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion and Human Behav iour and Coaching. She is a founding Management Committee Member of the Diversity Practitioners Association and a Ministerial Committee Member of the School for Student Leadership. In 2016, Teagan released her first book, Rules of the Game: Women in the Masculine Industries, which presents an honest account of the realities faced by women in these industries and succinctly delivers recommendations on how to overcome the challenges and make the most of the advantages.
