Abstract: From 1977 to 1986, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Technology, in the Informatics Faculty, her teaching activities have been mainly developed in the degree of Computer Engineering, as well as in different schools of Industrial Engineering, teaching courses in the following areas: Digital Systems, Analogue Design, Robotics, Computer aided Manufacturing, Robot Control and Planning, Computer Vision and Industrial Automation. From 1981 the teaching activities in postgraduate courses, Ph. D programs and Masters related to Computer Engineering and Advanced Technologies in Manufacturing, have been: Interfaces for Process Control, Computer Architectures, Computer Vision, Advanced Robotic Systems, Computer Assisted Maintenance and Integrated Production Systems. From 1986-91 Associate professor in the Automatic Control and Computer Engineering Department of UPC. Professor since 1991 in the same Department. Currently lecturer in the PhD.

On 04-05 December 2009, Professor Alicia Casals visited the RAS Chapter of the IEEE Tunisia Section as a Distinguished Lecturer. Professor Casals is a leading researcher. She is also a Vice President of the Member Activities of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and an IEEE RAS Distinguished Lecturer.
Pr. Casals’s visit to Tunisia was hosted by the IEEE Tunisia Section and coordinated by the RAS Chapter.
This Distinguished Lecture attracted a crowd of nearly 10 IEEE members and non-members from the National School of Engineers of Sfax-Tunisia who listened carefully. The audience was from not only the National School of Engineers of Sfax, but also elsewhere.
On December 04-05, Pr. Casals delivered his lecture in the seminar Room of the National School of Engineers of Sfax. In her first presentation, the lecture included an overview of Robotic systems and its applications which are among the important areas of research and development being carried out in many laboratories.
This event significantly raised the profile of the IEEE RAS Tunisia activities. The audience was very interested by both presentations by Pr. Casals because they offered an occasion to debate important issues and key points in Robotic field.
Many members of the audience joined in interesting discussions that resulted from the talk on Human-Robot Interaction. Professor Casals well demonstrated his knowledge of the subject and delivered a very lively lecture. It was enthusiastically received by the audience as was evident from the hot discussion in the questions and answers session that followed the lecture.
After his lecture, Prof. Adel M. Alimi the chapter chair thanked Pr. Casals for visiting Tunisia and his enthusiasm in encouraging the IEEE Tunisia section to progress in promoting the IEEE activities.
While in Gabes, Professor Alicia also gave a talk at the faculty on science of Gabes to about 60 students.
Research students benefited from this Distinguished Lecture, and were especially welcomed to participate in future RAS society events.
