About Us
The Robotics and Automation Society is interested in both applied and theoretical issues in robotics and automation. Robotics is here defined to include intelligent machines and systems used, for example, in space exploration, human services, or manufacturing; whereas automation includes the use of automated methods in various applications, for example, factory, office, home, laboratory automation, or transportation systems to improve performance and productivity.
The IEEE Tunisia RAS Chapter was established by Prof. Adel M. Alimi in January 1, 2009 as joint chapter with the SMC Society. In May 27, 2009, it becomes a separate chapter. It assembles 1 Senior Member, 10 Members, 9 Graduate Student Members, and 1 Student Member (Statistics by August 2012).
Promote robotics in Tunisia
Robotics and Automation involves designing and implementing intelligent machines which can do work too dirty, too dangerous, too precise or too tedious for humans. It also pushes the boundary on the level of intelligence and capability for many forms of autonomous, semi-autonomous and teleoperated machines. Intelligent machines have applications in medicine, defence, space and underwater exploration, service industries, disaster relief, manufacturing and assembly and entertainment.
The following table presents the membership development in the chapter.

The IEEE RAS Tunisia Chapter provides a platform for robotics and automation professionals in Tunisia to network, engage in professional development, and exchange technical knowledge. We welcome all to attend our meetings, whether you are an IEEE member or not. However, we encourage you to consider joining the IEEE and adding RAS membership to fully benefit from our community.
You are welcome to attend any of our meetings, even if you are not a current member of the IEEE. We do, however, encourage you to join the IEEE and add RAS Membership.
