IEEE SusTech 2016 Student Poster Contest Abstract Submission Deadline Extended to Friday, September 23, 2016 – Both Undergraduate and Graduate Students are Eligible

The fourth IEEE Conference on Technologies for Sustainability (SusTech), October 9-11, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, explores the development and application of science, engineering, and technology to promote sustainability. To meet present needs without compromising our future, advances in sustainable technology, policy and social behavior are essential.

IEEE’s Technologies for Sustainability Conference (SusTech) brings together individuals and organizations who want to promote and apply advances in sustainable technology that allows:

  • Eliminating or reducing dangers such as pollution, global warming, electronic waste and negative impacts to overall health;
  • Minimize the impact of agriculture, energy production, transportation and electronics’ manufacturing and recycling on the environment;
  • Increase operating efficiency by reducing the waste stream; and
  • Use fewer resources to produce the same or better outcomes

The conference explores the development and application of science, engineering and technology to promote sustainability. SusTech brings together technologists and scholars from multiple disciplines to learn about and collaborate on improving sustainable technologies. The program features workshops, keynotes and presentations of contributed papers and invited speakers on research, technologies, methodologies, tools and case studies. SusTech strives to provide attendees the tools, connections and proactive solutions to take their sustainability programs to the next level.

Topics covered at the SusTech 2016 Conference include Internet of Things, Smart Grid, eWaste, Renewable Energy, Water, Electronics, Energy Efficiency, Transportation, and Societal Implications of Technology.

SusTech 2016 invites undergraduate and graduate students to submit abstracts for the Student Poster Contest. Additional information is available here. (Download Poster Contest Updated PDF Flyer here.)

Announcing Makers & Sustainability Workshop

Monday, August 29th, 2016

SusTech 2016 will feature a ‘Makers & Sustainability’ Workshop on Sunday, October 9, from noon-4:00 pm.

The workshop is available to both SusTech attendees and local audience. See the Registration page for details.

Workshop attendees will receive hands on experience with the Arduino 101, sensors, and Bluetooth LE. In this four hour workshop, you will learn the basics of using maker platforms and tools to create proof of concept solutions to sustainability problems.

The first half of the course will cover the basics of the popular Arduino environment and its use for simplified embedded programming. We will then incorporate an air quality sensor and explore the integrated features of the Arduino 101 microcontroller, including data collection, on-board computation, and connectivity.

Materials (Arduino, cables, sensors; approx. cost $50) are included with the course fee and kept by participants.

See the workshop page for details.

Due to the hands-on nature of the workshop, registration is limited to the first 15.
