Matt Eskandar, E.E. P.Eng. – Chair

Matt graduated from the University of Alberta with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1991. After working in Water Resources, Power Utility and Petroleum industries for 8 years, in 1999, Matt founded MR Control Systems International Inc. (www.mrcsi.com) in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Matt’s extensive experience in monitoring, control and automation projects in multiple industries worldwide has inspired him to develop a new generation of Monitoring and Control Systems that goes beyond conventional SCADA Systems
Matt is an active member of IEEE, APEGGA and APEGBC.

Ehsan Abbasi – Past Chair

Ehsan has been with AltaLink as Reliability Engineer – Lifecycle Maintenance Engineering since 2015. He has been active in electrical power industry and academia for more than 12 years with experience on reliability assessment of power transmission and distribution networks, power assets lifecycle, reliability centered maintenance, risk based asset management, condition monitoring along with power system SCADA and IED management solutions. Ehsan received B.Sc. from Amirkabir University of Technology and M.Sc. in Energy Systems Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran in 2005 and 2007 respectively. He received M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer from University of Calgary, AB, Canada in 2010 and 2018 respectively. He joined IEEE in 2009 and is currently a Senior Member.

Bruce Paizen, P.Eng. – Lead Event Coordinator

Bruce is a Junior Electrical Engineer at Associated Engineering Alberta Ltd. He currently specializes in power distribution, lighting and lighting control, functional description, control system definition, and equipment specification. Previously Bruce worked as a Junior Controls and Automation Engineer at PCTM Process Control & Technology Management Inc. At PCTM he specialized in electrical design and drafting, automation, instrumentation, and power distribution. He is a member of the IEEE Southern Alberta Control Systems & Instrumentation (CS&I), Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) and The International Society of Automation (ISA).

Paul Cook – Event Resource Coordinator

Paul, owner of ORIGIN Industries Ltd., is a Senior Systems Integrator with an Oil & Gas Operations background and a Red-Seal Journeyman Instrument Mechanic. Paul has 24 years’ automation and control project/maintenance experience in programming, designing, constructing and commissioning PLC, SCADA, HMI, RTU, Flow Measurement systems in the upstream and midstream Oil & Gas energy sector.

Jeff Shen – Event Coordinator

Jeff is a Professional Engineer with 20 years’ experience in power and control, currently Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer at Spartan Controls Ltd. Jeff is experienced in electrical design and project management, familiar with power distribution for industrial facilities, industrial machine and process controls, and Siemens/AB/Omron PLC automation system. Jeff worked in power plant in China after graduation from Shanghai Jiaotong University in 1997, and moved to Canada in 2003.
