From Engineer to Founder: The Startup Accelerator Experience (slides)
I had an idea and wanted to turn it into a startup. It appeared to be a daunting task switching career from being an engineer to a startup founder that may require re-training, incubation, professional networking, reading lots of relevant books, attending meet-ups, finding a team, finding money, and thinking of a business plan. All of those things ended up being true but the main hurdle was to take the first plunge and figure things out on the fly.

Reflecting upon the experience, the initial culture of a company is unbelievably critical and shapes the future of the venture, its day-to-day management, its inventiveness, and ultimately its success. In this talk, I will share some key lessons on starting up a Silicon Valley company. I will be happy to answer questions on how did we fund-raise, hire, and how is the management of startup different than a big company, etc.

Speaker: Jawad Nasrullah, Ph.D., President & CTO zGlue
As an expert in ultra-low-power designs, Dr. Jawad Nasrullah’s career has spanned a number of roles at some of the top technology companies in Silicon Valley. As one of zGlue’s co-founder, Dr. Nasrullah’s role included technology development for IoT edge node devices.

Before co-founding the company he was a key member of R&D teams at Intel, Sun Microsystems, Transmeta, Innovative Semiconductors and Samsung. Dr. Nasrullah earned his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University with an emphasis on ultra-low power technology. He holds 14 U.S. patents (issued/pending) and is the recipient of a number of national and institutional awards for academic achievements and commercial contributions. Dr. Nasrullah is a senior member of IEEE.
