Abstract

Silicon Photonics (SiPh) has been investigated to mitigate interconnect bottlenecks for future data centers and exascale high-performance computing systems because SiPh can provide better energy efficiency, higher bandwidth, and lower cost. Especially, by incorporating dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM), high aggregate bandwidth can be achieved, and also it can provide better channel scalability. In this talk, we present DWDM SiPh design methodology covering multiphysics simulation workflows, SiPh IC circuit design and verification results as well as electronic-photonic co-design platform for a reliable DWDM SiPh system by correctly capturing electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical behaviors.

Bio

Dr. Jinsung Youn is currently working as SI/PI engineer and CMOS circuit designer at Hewlett Packard Labs in Milpitas, California, USA. He received a combined M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Yonsei University, South Korea, in 2014. His doctoral dissertation concerned the high-speed and power-efficient 850-nm Si optoelectronic integrated circuit design for optical interconnect applications. From 2014 to 2018, he worked as an SI/PI/EMI engineer at Memory Division of Samsung Electronics Ltd., South Korea. In 2018, he joined HPE Labs, his current interests include high-speed optical transceiver design and 3D IC SI/PI analysis for Silicon Photonics.
