On 4th February 2018 the students of S6 EEE went on a charity visit to ‘Madathil Rehabitation Home’, Iritty, Kannur as a part of IEEE-IAS SB VJEC and “Hridayapoorvam”-a charity initiative by the S6 EEE students. We were a group of 40 students and 2 faculty members from EEE department (Ms. Shelma George and Ms. Riya Joy). They guided and supported us very well. The college management was very much impressed by this idea of charity pilgrimage and gave us full support. We reached there by 1:30 pm in the college bus. ‘Madathil’ is a rehabitation home and old-age home for women. There are mentally retarded people as well as people suffering from various diseases. They were very happy to see us. We distributed some sweets to them. Then we had some cultural programs and interactive session. They were eager to share their experiences to us. Even the in-mates of the old-age home danced and sang along with us. We were also very much pleased to see the smile on their face. Then we handed over some of the items such as cloths, soaps, fan, etc. we had purchased as a small contribution from our side. Then our faculty members gave a brief description about the college and the purpose of our program. Finally the program was concluded by 4:00 pm. The vote of thanks was given by Ms.Unnimaya Balakrishnan, Vice-chair, IAS SB VJEC. We all had really a great time there. We could see an entirely different phase of life there. We all were really touched by some the experiences shared by some of the in-mates there. We were very much pleased to see the smile on their face. That was the biggest reward received for our initiative. We are sure to have more such programs that helps us to connect more with the society, to see and understand the issues and problems in the outside world and also to mold us into a human being with moral values and humanitarian qualities
