  • IEEE Day 2017-2018

On October 3 2017 our IEEE UTH(Lamia) Student Branch in conjunction with the University of Thessaly ,celebrated IEEE day. At the beginning of the event the IEEE association, IEEE in region 8,IEEE Greek Section and IEEE UTH(Lamia) SB and its past and forthcoming activities were presented to the 150 student participants. Besides the introduction and the detailed analysis of the IEEE ,we organized an easy but interesting programming competition where four teams consisting of 4-5 people were asked to use the Scratch programming language so as to successfully complete the Pong game. Each member of the winning team was later awarded a power bank. Afterwards, a Coffee & Cake Session took place, where the participants had the chance to get to know us better, to be enlightened about IEEE ,about our goals as a Student Branch and to become IEEE members.

Moreover a party at the local cafeteria ‘People Café –The house project’ was organized at night so as to create a more pleasant atmosphere between us and the new members and to raise money that will be beneficial for accomplishing our planned activities.

  • Athens Science Festival 2017 || Athens, Gazi

It is an Honor for IEEE Uth (Lamia) SB to participate to Athens Science Festival 2017 [29/3/2017-2/4/2017]

  • 8th Workshop: “Security for everything, everyone, anytime”

The challenge to protect companies, citizens and Governments from online threats is more and more complex every day. Higher amount and sophistication of the attacks make it necessary to strengthen the systems. Improving the security of the technologies we use is possible, but in order to achieve it we need qualified professionals with deep knowledge on cybersecurity.

In this educational environment, students are expected to acquire, through a mainly practical approach and under the guidance of experts, advanced knowledge of information security, to stimulate the early generation of talent that can be applied in their future careers.

The program includes:

—>Poster Session

—>Talks by experts

—>Competition between students

and many, many more…

Can you hack, or will you let yourself be hacked?

To conclude, we look forward to participating in IEEEXtreme 11.0 where we hope even more teams will take part to this wonderful experience which combines knowledge with team spirit.

  • Arduino Competition

As the result of the Arduino Barcamp we organized during the last academic year, the members of our IEEE Student Branch and the students of our University requested us to organize a similar event this academic year, so we decided to organize an Arduino Competition. On Thursday, December 17th we had our first meeting in the auditorium of our University with more than 70 attendees. At the beginning of the meeting our professor Athanasios Kakarountas lectured on the fundamentals of the Arduino board and its programming.

After the attendees were introduced to the Arduino board, they were separated into groups of 5-6 people in order to choose a project of their own choice, built it and present it at the end of the academic year and be competed with the other teams. In order to built their project each group has been given an Arduino UNO microcontroller, as well as has been granted a budget enough for them to buy the components they will need. Before the competition takes place, the 15 teams will be participating at the weekly meetings to expand their knowledge regarding Arduino and to discuss their project progress.

  • 3rd Open T.I.S.P 2.0 festival

On May 28 2016 our Student branch organized the third consecutive Open T.I.S.P 2.0 festival in the Central Square of Lamia ,Greece.

The event was met with a huge acceptance from students of all ages ,who came to take part in various activities in the area of engineering and programming. At their disposal they had materials for everyday use with which they were able to successfully complete the proposed activities chosen from tryengineering.org. Some of them were the Ship the Chip, the Tall Tower Challenge, the Arduino Blink Challenge.

At the end of the event the students left with an understanding of simple engineering and with the notion that every problem can be solved when you cut it down to pieces and work rigorously.
