The date being October 6th, 2015; day being the first Tuesday of the month; and place being The Bahrain Society of Engineers located in Juffair was when the IEEE Day was being celebrated by a joint event between both the Bahrain section and UOB student Branch. The global event was celebrated through inspirational speeches, fun and skill-provoking games, and conversations about new upcoming technologies that brought together engineering students and engineering professionals and removed what might have seemed like a generation gap that existed between them. It did not matter whether an undergrad student was giving  a speech or a one of the senior members present in the hall, because all were willing listen and learn.

What was marvellous was observing the greatness and ease of dialogue between the participants. The fact that two students can speak about the upcoming advancement in technologies and the greatest technological achievements in our time over a cupcake was joyous to watch.

This day was a proof that there exists great potential in those who represent the upcoming future. The games, although they were supposed to be the fun-part of the event, were made by IEEE’s most excelling student members both to equally entertain and allow skill-usage, whether it was a physical or a mental skill. Unsurprisingly, the games didn’t only attract the student members; in fact, it was the Bahrain section members who volunteered the most. This was another proof of the disappearance of age-defined boundaries while maintaining the mutual respect of both age groups.

Last but not least, it was very satisfying to listen to the positive feedback from all the people present towards the end of the event. The IEEE UOB Student Branch was encouraged by the Bahrain Section to organise more similar activities and events in order to be a strong initiator of dialogue between people who are willing to learn and use what they learn for the good of humanity.

It is always a pleasure to be part of events that bring great minds together and that is exactly what the IEEE Day is all about. Through the speeches given and conversations that went on between the engineering society’s students and seniors, one of IEEE’s founding objectives was achieved; which was to learn and keep learning. The youthful energy that the student branch brought to the event through the organisation and shared-ideas came together with the experience of the professional members of the Bahrain Section to create an environment fit for learning. It was great to watch that the IEEE UOB Student Branch bring that positive spirit to the air of the event, leaving the people present looking forward to the next event, with a greater impression on the future.
