The PES SBC of Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology in association with the IEEE
PES Kerala Chapter and IEEE EMBS Kerala Chapter hosted a webinar on Engineering in
Healthcare and Public Health, led by Dr. Jithesh KA, Medical superintendent of District
Hospital Mavelikara, Alapuzha. The session started off with a welcome note from Mr. Boby
Philip, Secretary of IEEE PES Kerala Chapter. The event was also graced with a note from Mr.
Koruthu P Varghese, Chairman of IEEE EMBS Kerala Chapter, who extended his warm
welcome to the participants as well as the speaker. After this, the session was handled by Dr.
Jithesh who explained several aspects of medicine where engineering overlapped and proved
to be more a of multidisciplinary venture. Several recent advancements in public health sector
such as the use of AI and IoT in the medical field were discussed. A detailed Q&A session was
also conducted where participants presented their queries to Dr. Jithesh who could view the
questions from a doctor’s as well as an engineer’s perspective. The session came to an end
with a vote of thanks by Mr. Boby Philip.
The event was one that could be enjoyed by participants both within and outside the discipline
of engineering. It was insightful and dealt with the advancements in technology that aimed to
make our general public’s health a concern in which engineers too could actively contribute. The
participants got to know that the medical field is abundant with opportunities for engineers also,
and about the various fields of expertise that would be required from an engineer in this field.
