Introduction to the event

Are you a master student thinking about what to do in your future? Have you heard about the PhD but still you don’t know what exactly it is? Are you interested in joining the research community?

On 23rd April 2020, from 5.30 PM, we organize, together with the HKN PoliTo, the open day of the PhD programs related to the ICT fields of Politecnico di Torino. The event is open to all the master students of the Politecnico di Torino and all the people, also from other universities, who might be interested in a PhD program in this University related to the ICT field.

Listen to current PhD students’ work and get an insight into the daily life of doctoral students
Learn how to join a PhD program at Politecnico di Torino
Discover the advantages and benefits of joining a PhD program by discussing with professors and students.

There will be a presentation of the programs in the ICT offered by Politecnico di Torino:

Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering (EECE)
Computer and Control Engineering (CCE)
Metrology.

A selection of PhD candidates will present their personal experience as PhD students of the Politecnico di Torino, providing highlights on hot research activities. Senior alumni (former PhD candidates from PoliTo) will also discuss their experience and the role played by their PhD degree in boosting their careers. The invited speakers will be:

Leila Es Sebar: PhD student in Metrology.
Alex Minetto: Post-doctoral Research and Teaching Assistant at PoliTO, former PhD student in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering.
Andrea Marcelli: Security Research at Cisco Talos, former PhD student in Computer and Control Engineering.
Giulia Santoro: Engineer at Apple, former PhD student in Electrical, Electronics and Communications Engineering.

Considering the period, the event will be held online. Details for the connection to the event will be available the day of the event on our official website and on all of our social pages.

The event is co-organized by the IEEE Student Branch Politecnico di Torino and the IEEE HKN Mu Nu Chapter, in collaboration with the Coordinators of the above-mentioned PhD programs.

Leila Es Sebar (PhD Candidate in Metrology)

Leila Es Sebar received her M.S. degree in Materials Science for Cultural Heritage from the Università degli Studi di Torino, Italy, in 2018. She is currently a PhD student in Metrology at the Politecnico di Torino. Her research activities deal with the development of a multi-analytical measurement approach for the conservation assessment of cultural heritage artefacts.

Alex Minetto (Post-doctoral Research and Teaching Assistant)

Alex got his M.Sc. in Information Theory and Signal Processing Applications (TLC Engineering, DET) in 2015 after a six-month internship at EUMETSAT (Darmstadt, Germany) and he joined the NavSAS Research Group in 2016 as Ph.D. student working in the field of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). He has recently got his Ph.D. in Electrics Electronics and Communication Engineering (April 2020) and he is now working as a Research and Teaching Assistant within the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications. His research is focused on digital signal processing and advanced Bayesian estimation algorithms for collaborative positioning based on satellite navigation technologies.

Andrea Marcelli (Security Research at Cisco Talos)

Andrea Marcelli is a Malware Research Engineer at Cisco Talos Intelligence Group. He received the PhD from Politecnico di Torino in September 2019. In his PhD, he studied the large-scale processing of Android malware, proposing a semi-automated system to provide fast coverage and detect new malware variants. He presented part of his research at BSidesLV and DEFCON26. Currently his research interests include automated malware analysis, semi-supervised modeling, and graph isomorphism.

Giulia Santoro (Engineer at Apple)

Giulia joined Apple within their UK based GPU Design Centre in April 2019. Giulia earned her PhD in EECE from Politecnico di Torino in June 2019 where she was part of the VLSI Lab. Her research work focused on the investigation of configurable Logic-In-Memory architectures. She also took part in an international research project with the National University of Singapore working on hardware accelerators for Machine Learning.

I want to send the request to enroll in PhD but
I don’t know who can answer to my question.
I don’t have the abstract of my thesis.
The problem is that this document is mandatory in the apply platform.
I think that I will be able to graduate in October but now I can’t
write the abstract because it’s too early for me yet.
Thus my question is: I can send the request to enroll in PhD without the abstract of the thesis?

Dear professor ,is it possible that I want to get a position of PhD of ICT,if my average credit point is only 20,and my masters’degree is CCNE of politecnico of Torino .I am very interested in PhD program ,but my average point is very low.
