Webinar on “Gate Preparation strategies” by Dr. D. P. Kothari 🗓

IEEE OUCE SB in collaboration with Student Activities Committee, IEEE Hyderabad Section has organized a webinar on “Gate PreparationStrategies” on 27th September 2020 from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. The speaker for this event was Dr. D. P. Kothari, who is a former director

of IIT Delhi. Students perusing their B.E/B.Tech, M.E/M.Tech and Ph.D. Scholars from various colleges all over India have participated in this webinar. A total of 147 people have attended the webinar which was held on the Google meet platform.

           The session was graced by Prof. G. Mallesham, Head Of the Department, Electrical engineering Department, University College of Engineering, Osmania University, and also the Counselor of IEEE OUCE Student Branch. And it was started by Prof. G. Mallesham giving the brief introduction about the speaker Dr. D. P. Kothari, and sharing all the achievements of his life. From here the speaker took over the session and spoke about the GATE examination and what is new in GATE-21. Then the speaker spoke about what all the options do Students have after cracking GATE. He then shared Ten strategies that he thinks will help students to crack GATE. After that, the session was little inclined towards Electrical Engineering aspirants and he spoke about that the subjects one must focus on to crack GATE. he also gave some tips to aspiring 1st and 2nd year students. He suggested some books which students might find helpful in case they have any doubt while preparing. He suggested students that “Revision is the only Key to Success”. After the speaker was done with the presentation, we had a Question and Answer session for half an hour. At last, the session ended with a vote of thanks from Ms. Manaswee, Vice-chair, IEEE OUCE SB.

Speakers Profile:

Dr. D. P. Kothari obtained his BE (Electrical) in 1967, ME(Power Systems) in 1969, and Ph.D. in 1975 from BITS, Pilani, Rajasthan. From 1969 to 1977, he was involved in the teaching and development of several courses at BITS Pilani. Earlier Dr. Kothari served as Vice-Chancellor, VIT, Vellore, Director in-charge and Deputy Director (Administration) as well as Head in the Centre of Energy Studies at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, and as Principal, VRCE, Nagpur. He was a visiting professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Australia, during 1982-83 and 1989, for two years. He was also NSF Fellow at Perdue University, USA in 1992. He also taught at Melbourne University Australia for one semester in 1989. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), Fellow of Indian National Academy of Science (FNASc), Fellow of Institution of Engineers (FIE), Fellow IEEE, Hon. Fellow ISTE and Fellow IETE. Dr. Kothari, who is a recipient of the most Active Researcher Award, has published and presented 812 research papers in various national as well as international journals, conferences, guided 50 Ph.D. scholars and 68 M. Tech students, and authored 60 plus books in various allied areas. He has delivered several keynote addresses and invited lectures at both national and international conferences.
