Expert Talk on “Introduction to VLSI”

An expert talk on “Introduction to VLSI” was conducted by IEEE OUCE Student Branch and Techsonance 2020 in collaboration with Edwise Academy, a consultancy company and TUM Asia (Technical University of Munich, Asia branch) on 24th February, 2020 in the E-classroom of Electrical Engineering Department, University College of Engineering (A), Osmania University.

Dr. Srinivas Boppu, Assistant Professor from IIT Bhubaneswar, started the session with the introduction of SoC (System on Chips). He explained in detail why the concept itself was originated, explained about Moore’s law which explained how the advancement of chips takes place in the future. He stressed on the difference between microprocessors, microcontrollers and SoCs. He then briefed about design of SoCs and the application of FPGAs in it.

The session lasted for an hour throughout which Dr. Srinivas Boppu had gripped the interest of students with his lecture on ICs and their basic designing. In the end an official from EDWISE had explained about all the arrangements it can provide to students who are planning for abroad study. Later, the session ended with TUM Asia official briefed about the university, the courses available and the various advantages of joining it. Flyers regarding the university were also distributed.
