WIE AG Charity Drive

The Women in Engineering Affinity Group under IEEE SB OUCE had organized its first event on 10th January, 2020. As a part of charity event, we visited Chaithanya Mahila Mandali, an orphanage for women, in Hyderabad. The occasion was graced by WIE Faculty Advisor Prof. M Manjula and Assistant Professors Mrs. E. Sreeshobha and Mrs. G. V. Nagalakshmi from the Electrical Engineering Department.

Chaithnaya Mahila Mandali is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the safety of women and upbringing of children. Orphanage in Hyderabad provides shelter for women of different ages, religion, caste and races. With the intention of starting the year as well as WIE AG with a good cause Prof. M. Manjula suggested that we do a charity event. We had spread the word that a charity event was being organized in our college and many students had contributed to it.

We visited the orphanage at 5.00 p.m. in the evening of specified date. Along with our professors, few IEEE WIE volunteers attended it.  We had a lively interaction with the children. We entertained children by singing the songs they requested. When asked to sing the song in return, every one of them sang in unison. We were so surprised by their unity and this is something to learn from them. We provided them with snacks and chocolates which we bought with the donations students made. After sometime of entertaining children, our professors distributed cotton bedsheets (These are requirements specified by the orphanage authority). We also donated many clothes which the students had contributed.

The children are very lively and charming. They interacted enthusiastically with us and when asked about their ambitions, some mentioned becoming a pilot, IAS while others want to become social workers. Every person wants to become a specific something which has less to do with society. We need to take inspiration from these children to become a social worker and their willingness to reciprocate what they are receiving.

Our visit ended with professors encouraging students to pursue their goals and the promise of any kind of help and another visit. As they gained a few necessities from us, we gained a lot of warmth and inspiration from them, which is more necessary than anything else.
