Robotics Club Session-4 “Servo and Motor Shield”

This was the fourth session of the Robotics Club held on 19 February 2019. It was hosted by the members of IEEE OUCE Student Branch and the speaker was Mr. Rakshith Ballipara, the main organizing head of The Robotics Club, UCEOU.

The session started with giving a brief outline about the last session conducted on Arduino. Questions were asked on basics of Arduino just to brush up the minds of all the members. Once again, the Arduino programming languages and the syntaxes of all the commands were revised. Then, Members were taught about the basic program on how to control a servo motor. After that the members were asked to perform various exercises on servo motor using Arduino programming. Then they were taught about Arduino programming using a potentiometer connected to a servo motor. Varying the knob of the potentiometer, the analog values were assigned. Students were made to do the programming themselves and they were successful as well.

After that, The members were taught about the programming of a motor driver that is L293D. They were told everything about the motor driver, the pin configuration and the working. The basic program on how to control a motor driver was told and they were asked to write a program connecting 4 motors of a rover and running them. With the knowledge provided by the instructor, he asked the attendees to try programming a wireless controlled robot using Arduino. The session was concluded with a Q and A for attendees to clarify any doubts they had regarding the programming of Arduino and practical knowledge about the motor driver L293D and servo motor.
