About Us

The IEEE Student Branch – Wilsonville Chapter at Oregon Tech is a recognized student branch of the “world’s largest technical community leveraging technology for a better tomorrow”. The Student Branch strives to involve and connect different student populations (from incoming freshmen to seniors and graduate students, from engineering and technology to health sciences) and plan events that address a variety of needs and interests.

The main contributions to our campus take shape in three key aspects:

  1. To provide educational and career advancement opportunities for Oregon Tech students;
  2. Develop a welcoming and connected community through social events;
  3. Raise awareness and increase the visibility of Oregon Tech and the Wilsonville Campus in the larger community.

Activities we develop:

  • EERE Student Component Kits – Provides incoming students a streamlined way to obtain required materials for the introductory labs in the electrical engineering and renewable energy programs. This initiative provides both convenience and a cost benefit to incoming students while helping them to begin establishing relationships and feel welcome and connected to the student community right from the start.
  • Professional Development Initiative (PDI) – The goal is to provide financial support for outstanding Oregon Tech students to attend professionally related conferences. The students share their knowledge and experiences with the broader student community by presenting workshops/presentations about the topics they learned upon their return.
  • Student Professional Awareness Events – This initiative provides students with many opportunities to enhance  leadership, organization, project management, communication, time management, and other important non-technical skills. An example is TECH Talks, a completely student-produced event that brings together students, professors, and industry leaders to speak about exciting areas of development in technology, engineering, creativity, and health in the Pacific Northwest.
  • Company Technical Tours (also upon student request) aims to expose students to technical visits to companies in which they have interest; companies include FLIR, Mentor Graphics, Rockwell Collins and PGE.
  • IEEE Oregon Section Meeting at the Wilsonville Campus – Created to raise awareness and visibility of the campus among the community of professionals in different fields of engineering and technology, but also to provide a great and convenient opportunity for Oregon Tech students to network and get plugged into the professional organization at large.
  • Social Events like the Monthly Coffee Social and Hell Week Social provide students with a means to mingle between classes and to decompress during Dead Week, including the opportunity to have a 15 min massage.
  • Volunteer Hours – Developed to foster integration between students and the community. Students can participate in a variety of ways like helping K-12 students to assemble solar cars as well as planning and participating in events and workshops.
