The IEEE EMBS MSRIT student chapter was inaugurated on 17th December 2012 by the following dignitaries:
- Dr. V.B Narayana Murthy – Senior consultant plastic surgeon, Sundaram medical foundation and Global Hospital
- Mr. Oswin Varghese – Site Manager, Diagnostic Cardiology Division, Research and Development, at GE Healthcare, Bangalore.
- Dr. P S Pandian – Scientist ,Defence Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory ,DRDO
- Dr. Seetharamu – Chairman of IEEE EMB Bangalore Chapter
- Sri. M R Seetharam –Vice Chairman, MSRIT
- Dr. S Y Kulkarni – Principal, MSRIT
- Dr. N Sriraam –Professor and Head Department of Medical Electronics, MSRIT
The event began by invoking the blessings of the Almighty, followed by the Welcome address delivered by Dr.S.Y.Kulkarni, Principal MSRIT. The official inauguration was carried out by the lighting of the lamp and honouring the guests with bouquets and mementoes. Dr.N.Sriraam in his introductory talk highlighted the importance of establishing the IEEE EMBS MSRIT Student Chapter and its benefits. The office bearers for the term (Jan 2013 – Dec 2013) were then officially introduced.
This was followed by talks of the esteemed dignitaries, which were both informative and inspiring. Dr.Seetharumu emphasized the importance of biomedical engineering and the key research areas emerging in the field. Mr. Oswin Varghese stressed on the fact that safety regulations play a major role in the biomedical instrumentation industry. He also enlightened on the steps to be taken by students and faculty to bridge the gap between academia and industry.Dr.V.B Narayana Murthy spoke about the upcoming need for medical electronics in the field of Plastic surgery through the advancement in the application of Nanotechnology in medicine. Dr.P.S Pandian spoke about the major role that medical electronics engineers play in the field of BIO-MEMS. Mr. Manam Mansoor, Chairman – IEEE EMBS MSRIT Student Chapter, then conveyed the goals and activities planned for the year by the society. The event came to a fruitful end when Ms. Eepsa Singh, Vice – Chairman – IEEE EMBS MSRIT Student Chapter, delivered the vote of thanks.
